I am available for guest author appearances and signings at schools, libraries, book stores and special events.
I have been visiting several schools as a guest speaking author throughout the Sydney area and I would be thrilled to be a guest author at your school or event.
I usually present “Oh My!” Said the Fly to Year 1, Kindergarten or preschool children, with a reading followed by games and educational activities. This book can also be presented to the older students; I can adapt my talk for all grades. With grades 2-6, I talk about writing and producing a picture book for young readers and we discuss what elements are needed to make a book appealing to them. I also show the students samples of the illustrator’s original artwork, and talk about how the images of the characters evolved.
My presentation of Lex is suitable for primary school students from Year 2 to Year 6. My talk describes different styles of writing; use of various language features; artistic visual expression; and other aspects of producing picture books for children.
Party by the Billabong was written for children 5 years and over. My presentation, however, can be adapted for all age groups.
For the younger students:
With the use of various interactive activities, I aim to stimulate an interest for, and an appreciation of out unique Australian animals and native wildflowers.
For the older grades:
We will also explore rhythm and rhyme in written expression in children’s literature. Students will be shown the illustrator’s original canvas artwork as a stimulus for discussion of the use of visual arts in children’s picture books.
Author appearances are free of charge for schools who are happy to promote my visit and encourage the students and parents to purchase the books. I can provide promotional posters as well as parent notes and order forms.
